Employers need to build a work environment that triggers the motivation for employees to work. A hierarchy that promotes seamless collaboration is desired. Organizational structures that promote such activity engage the employee more. Thus creating a business sense in the employee.
In large corporations with hierarchies, decisions are made at the top. Decision makers and doers are located on different islands in such organizations. Only an organizational structural change can bring them together. Creating a relationship with employees is similar to building a relationship with family members. The relationship has to be nurtured, and grown. The basis of the relationship should be made on boundaries that should not be crossed, and duties that have to be performed. Every employee should be given ownership and full accountability towards the duty he or she performs.
Employers need to look into the causes of dissatisfaction in employees. Personal issues are the most common problems faced by the employees. Personal issues cripple performance and enthusiasm levels of the employee. Employees show poor attitude at work and their innovation levels take a steep dive down.
Another cause of dissatisfaction in employees is problems with fellow colleagues. Bad relationships at the working place can lead to animosity between employees. It leads to unhealthy competition that can ultimately spiral into a company-wide problem.
Employers need to look into symptoms of these problems. Afflicted employees show certain traits that are indications of this. This is where a human resources function comes in handy. A human resources professional can engage the employee in a personal and off-the-record discussion. On behalf of the company, the human resources professional can extend a helping hand.
